One hundred years of Švejk: tranformation of the critical reception of Jaroslav Hašek's novel

This thesis deals with one century of Czech critical reflection on Jaroslav Hašek's novel The Good Soldier Švejk, i.e. the period from the publication of the first volume in 1921 to 2021. Using reviews in the press, literary critical polemics, selected literary and scientific studies and relevant articles we follow the transformation of the critical discourse about the mentioned novel. The mutual coherence of the viewed sources is ensured by the emphasis on intratextuality, the overview character of the work is complemented by references to other works. This work then not only collects individual texts in the form of bibliographic records and recapitulations of key theses, but also places them in a cultural, historical or social context using interpretive blocks. Using interpretations, we create a narrative culminating in the conclusion when we report on the evolution of the work's critical reception. After its publication, the book is accepted by a wide readership, but literary criticism ignores it with only few exceptions. The work saw rehabilitation in the second half of the 20s of the 20th century thanks to the critical polemics of the time. Since then, the novel has undergone several revisions - in the 1930s it was interpreted as a proletarian novel, during the Second World War it was banned...
The media reflection of culture in Czech weeklies Respekt and Reflex

The aim of the diploma thesis "Media image of culture in the weekly Respekt and Reflex" is to use qualitative and quantitative research to describe the attitude towards culture and its relationship in the social news weekly magazines Respekt and Reflex. The theoretical part of this work is devoted to the description of the influences on the production of cultural journalism. It deals with the interpretative conception of culture, from the anthropological conception, through the conception of the Frankfurt and Birmingham schools to contemporary approaches to the attitude towards culture and the creative industries. All this is set in the context of the study of media and mass media, which is also influencing the cultural production. The results of the analytical part then present the concept of culture based on the description of editorial approaches to cultural topics and the analysis of the contents of the stated weekly magazines. In the end of the work the theoretical knowledge is connected with the results of research. The specifics of journalists' and fan musical theatre reviews production

This bachelor thesis is dedicated to specifics related to creation of journalists' and fan musical theatre review. The theoretical part first introduces the basic characteristics of cultural journalism, as well as content and formal aspects of reviews. Moreover there are defined specifics of theatre reviews, which are particular kind of art reviews. In this part of the thesis there is also concisely presented definition of musical as theatre genre, and its evolution around the world, including the Czech Republic. There is also outlined the current situation on the Czech musical theatre scene and the Czech phenomenon of recent years, which is active creating of fan musical reviews. The practical part of the thesis is based on personal qualitative research of making the musical reviews, conducted by interview with guidance. Based on four interviews with two amateur and two professional reviewers, and on subsequent analysis of these interviews, there are determined specifics of creating musical reviews, including the extent of their importance. This thesis also includes comparison of two different approaches to creating musical reviews.
